James Dorlin Restart Racing - BTCC Launch Day - Brands Hatch - 08 April 2026
Well Jamie, here we are. Actually, we're stood in the shade, aren't we? Because it's too flipping hot to stand in the sun. Um, interesting couple of hours this morning. Uh I think you're currently sitting about third on a 47-7. Pleased with that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's nice straight out of the box here to uh to be up uh in the mix. Still obviously testing, so it's it doesn't mean too much just yet, but um and and we're just playing around with different setup things. We the nice thing there is we wanted to practice uh a Saturday for a race weekend with only the one practice doing doing balance setup and then straight into a quality. So it wasn't quite right, it didn't feel lovely, and it certainly was very loose down paddock, which people may have seen, but um it didn't matter. It was like, no, let's do a uh you know a practice quality now as we are just to see uh how we would get through a Saturday. So, all good info. We're now doing a bit of a set-down and and go again this afternoon.
SPEAKER_00What are the key learnings from this morning, apart from how lively it was out on the circuit at the back end?
SPEAKER_01Um the nice thing to be honest is the weather because when we were here last year it was a similar kind of weather, a little bit cooler than today, but um looking after the front tyres was really important, so it's nice we've got that today. Um see as well for me. I've never driven this car anywhere but croft at the test the other week, so it's nice to see the balance and feeling at a different circuit, and from that we've I've figured out what things we need to change to to make it work here because it is different characteristics to what we had at Brandt at uh Croft, so yeah, it's all all learning every time I go out.
SPEAKER_00You said to me previously that you were looking forward to getting in this car and to seeing what it could do and what you could do with it. Are you already feeling that that sort of jigsaw puzzle is coming together?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel really comfortable in a car already, which you know I think we've got a very good base package anyway, uh, which was was visible from what the team did last year, um, which is nice, and it's nice having a car where we do a change and I can feel it within a half a lap, and we come back in, do another, and you know, not every car it gives you that that uh feedback if you like. So yeah, I'm I'm really happy. It's just a case of fine-tuning and hopefully we start strong next week.
SPEAKER_00I know it's only a test day, but it's quite nice to go into lunch in the top three, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it is. I mean, like I said, I don't want to get carried away just focusing on on what we're doing and we'll be doing different, you know, programme to what others are doing. So we'll find out next week, you know, but um but yeah, it's certainly nice to be in the mix. Good job so far, well done. Cheers, thank you.
