Well Aaron, congratulations. You had to wait ten years to be on the top of the podium again, but you did it in stun style, in horrendous conditions here at uh Brown Sack.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did the best I could. Like it feels very surreal. Like that's the truth of it. Like it's you dream and you work so hard, and let's be honest, the first weekend was a bit bruising for me. So to win a race of the second weekend is something that I'm so proud of. And it it's not possible without Mark and everyone at Ladies Who's Racing believing in me to give me this opportunity. Um so I'm just yeah, over the moon to uh to get one in the bag for us this early in the year.
SPEAKER_00When did you see your opportunity? Just talk me through the back end uh of that race.
SPEAKER_01Joe, I saw the opportunity when we found what the problem was after race one. I knew that the car was going to be a whirlwind better, um, and then I just started picking them off like every like what Craig and MB have given me. Second to none. When everything's working, we've had a few little issues this weekend, but now we've put them behind us to get a win. Is uh it's crazy, it's been ten years. Ten years, so it's been a long time.
SPEAKER_00So you made your move and you're then into clean air. Um but you were seemingly uncatchable, you were a good distance ahead within a couple of laps.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I was convinced someone would eventually catch me, so I was like, I should probably get enough of a gap so then I can just drive away from it. Um so actually, yeah, just kind of kept my head down, worked hard at it, and we got it. I was just really proud. Really proud of what MB, Alex, Craig, Mark, everyone has given me to do this.
SPEAKER_00I think you're always, when I talk to you, one of the most positive people, no matter what's happened to you on the grid. Is it you work hard for moments like this?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's it. Like it's so difficult. Like this championship, the best drivers are in it, the best teams, the best tracks, very hard to win at all. So to win another race is something that I am just so so proud of. Um accumulation of all the hard work is starting to pay off, and I got Oakley a big trophy. That's the most important part.
SPEAKER_00Dare I ask how emotional it was when you stood on the podium and the Irish national anthem played?
SPEAKER_01No, but teary-eyed, it's a bit odd. Like, like you work so hard at this that sometimes uh you get so many kicks and you get so many knockdowns, and actually to come back and have a win is just such an elation, like amazing feeling. I'm over the moon.
SPEAKER_00Is is this the start of of the real title challenge now for Aaron Taylor Smith?
SPEAKER_01I think I said this to Lauren last night. I was like, I feel we have a chance, and today is the turning point. We can rewrite the script and get after it. Um to winner race, after I said that only last night, amazing. Congratulations, you did it in style as well. Well done. Appreciate that, thank you very much.
