Charles Rainford WSR - Qualifying Race - Snetterton - 23 May 2026
Charles, huge congratulations. An incredible opener here at Snetterton. An amazing move, brave move by you in lap one to take the lead, and then off you went.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was lovely, you know. Obviously, we normally struggle with the tire warm-up face. I tell you what, none. I absolutely loved that. So can we do two green flag laps tomorrow and I think I'll start even better. You know, didn't get the most amazing launch off the line. That was down to me, really. I feel um, but I had mega pace on lap one. Um was just able to basically drive around the outside of Tom, um shoving on the grass a little bit, so got a bit argy bargy at the next corner, but you know, very happy with the performance uh of the car myself. You know, once we got to about halfway through, I could see cookie because the tires were just dying. So uh Dan said to me, pace looks good, which is always the key to let's calm down now uh and just bring it home. So it's lovely. And the first win for a BMW this season. It is, that's lovely, isn't it? Yeah, you know, Jake last year. Slowly I'm following the footsteps of my fabulous old teammate.
SPEAKER_00Um a good performance though, which as you mentioned, the weather is gonna affect tyres this weekend, which means you've got a whole Sunday to look forward to getting heat in the tyres quickly. Yeah, exactly that.
SPEAKER_01Uh, two ways of looking forward to it, you know, obviously we're gonna be very fast, but also it's gonna be even hotter. So in the car, I mean it's no secret, it is hot in there. I was talking to um Alan on the sighting grid, he touched the roll cage and it is hot, hot, hot. So, you know, it's what we're training for, obviously, as racing drivers, um, between our full-time jobs, but um certainly fantastic Saturday, and normally that continue hopefully through tomorrow.
SPEAKER_00You pulled out a very nice lead by the end, uh, where we would be expecting the tyres to go off in this heat as well. They come to you quickly, but they go away quickly. Were you noticing that at the end of the eight laps?
SPEAKER_01Um yes, to be fair, we all were, obviously. Um, you know, it's so our car's gonna handle it well, isn't it? So um that's certainly going to be good for us, and it was good for us. You know, good you do a fantastic job with the tires. If I wanted to push and for another half a second, you know, I might be an L2, but it wasn't worth the risk, certainly with the brakes getting very hot as they were. So um yeah, you know, you've got to nurse it, points have been prized, isn't today's been a good day. Really good drive though, Charles, well done. Thank you, appreciate that.
